Artist Biography

Samantha is a graduate of the Class of 2007 from Galway Central School, in New York state. It was here that her foundation was laid for photography by working in the black and white darkroom offered there in her Junior year of High School. After graduating, Samantha attended the full ten-month program at the Hallmark Institute of Photography, in Massachusettes, as a part of the class of 2008, where she gained her extensive knowledge in all fields of the art. While pursuing her dreams there, she focused most of her efforts into portraiture, and has since made that her career. While studying, and continuing to practice the art, she came to find a love and hidden talent for fine art work as well; and now is working to produce several projects worth of imagery that is geared to be as aesthetically pleasing as possible. Someday, she hopes to produce a series of books based off of the personal projects she completes.

Samantha currently resides in the mountainous upstate New York, far from the hussle and bussle of the city below. After attending the Hallmark program, she returned home to set up her own photography business, and currently runs it out of her own home. It is her goal to someday build her own studio to meet both her needs, and the needs of her clients; and every job she takes on is to help further that process so that she may meet her goal. Samantha does not, however, allow for her location to limit her creative ability. Because of this, she is very fond of doing in-home work with those who require her services as well, and has a traveling studio to meet those needs.

Artist Statement

Photography is my way of expressing myself to the world, and for leaving something behind for future generations to see. I firmly believe that one never dies so long as a memory lives on in someone's heart, and this is my way of creating a lasting legacy; both for myself, and for those who I photograph. Working with people is something enjoyable because I am able to use a piece of technology to capture something intangible: time and emotion. There is no greater feeling to me then producing artwork that brings smiles to the faces and hearts of those around me. Knowing that I can make someone else's day a little bit better by art I create with my own hands is what makes me happiest in life.

As an artist, I feel that I am very ambitious. I strive to meet impossible goals, and I am disappointed in myself when I cannot accomplish them. My passion for photography was sparked when I was sixteen, and a Junior in High School. I went straight from High School to a trade school, and from there I opened for business before even completing the program! I am working hard at making sure I can accomplish my personally-created studio in less than five years now, and it is the dream that drives me forward through all the rough spots. I set the impossible goals, and when I reach them, it's one of the best feelings I can have. Being able to combine my photography with my goals only furthers my ambitious nature, and someday I hope to share this with other young people who are taking their first steps out into life as well.

Samantha was born in New York state on May 15th, 1989. She works towards these goals with the support of her family and friends behind her, and is grateful for that support every day.
